Senior Data Scientist
Tell us about yourself
My name is Daniel Bitsch, I’m 32 and one of the oldest data scientists working at Processand. That may be the reason I was elected as the “trusted person” in here, or I seem to be that trustworthy because of my charismatic, responsible, and patient nature as a two time daddy… we will never know… haha
At Processand I am a Senior Data Scientist, Software Trainer, as well as I do a bit of Sales and Business Development. On top of that, as previously I mentioned, I am the trusted person and I assist anyone who might have any worries or troubles at work.
I studied mechanical engineering and learned about Celonis during my masters and started to work as a software trainer afterwards. During this phase I strengthened my knowledge, and eventually changed my focus to data science and Process Mining.
Besides being a family dad, I play handball and when I find the time during winter season, I love to go snowboarding.
What is your typical day like?
After the most stressful part of the day - preparing 2 kids for childcare and dropping them off - I start my working day with our internal team update. We talk about important and complex tasks that’ll come up during that day and determine whether we would require additional support. No day is never the same. Sometimes I jump from customer meeting to customer meeting, and sometimes I am more flexible to work on specific tasks. We also have internal calls to coordinate next steps and tasks within the project team. Since covid is a little less present during the last few months, I also travel on-site to different customers from time to time, conducting training sessions or workshops. In general, you can say my days are very diverse and there is no such thing as a typical day.
What is your favorite part of your job?
There are many things I like about Processand, however, since the question is focused on what I like about my job, I will not mention our young and fun team, the friendly and supportive spirit around the office, the kicker matches during short breaks, the free drinks and coffee in the office or the multiple after-work events. No, I will only talk about the interesting, diverse, and most often complex tasks I love about my job. Since Process Mining is not tied to a specific field of industry, we have customers from a variety of industry branches with different pain points and problems they’d like to resolve by utilizing Process Mining, as we support them on their journey towards process excellence.
How have your hobbies helped you at work?
Handball is a very intense team sport in which you need to work together as a team and be devoted towards the same goal. I think this spirit is something that is also necessary, if you work in a young and rising company within a market which is as turbulent as ours is nowadays. I am very glad I have mastered this teamwork mentality and I apply it in my work every single day.
What makes working at Processand special for you?
Besides what I already said about my favorite part of my job, I find it super exciting to work at a young and fast-growing company. I mean, I've been here for almost 3 years now and I've seen and am currently experiencing a massive transformation within the company. More importantly, I can also contribute to shaping it. We are not one of those large corporations where many structures are fixed (maybe for a good reason), we are a growing and living structure that is subject to constant change and by doing so, we are becoming greater every single day. What worked well for us in the past may be in need of optimization as we are growing exponentially. This challenge makes working at Processand special for me.
Describe your team at Processand with a music quote
“F*ck your 5-year plan, [we are] on [our] life-long hustle” Too Cool by SOL
What was your dream job when you were a kid?
Inventor – I always thought if I’d be an inventor, I could invent all the toys I wanted to have as a kid, that didn’t quite exist yet. Somehow this dream carried over and influenced me to pursue mechanical engineering. However, in the end, I found a way more interesting and challenging purpose for me than inventing toys – although, my kids would love the idea of me inventing and building toys, haha.
What advice would you give to someone who wanted to join the Processand team?
What a great question - If you're ready for a challenge in a new and future-oriented technology sector, we're definitely one of the best places to start at. The opportunities are great and here you can develop your skills in a supportive atmosphere, guided by extremely intelligent colleagues.
