Tell us about yourself

Hey everyone, I’m Toms and I joined the Processand team as a Marketing Manager in January 2022. In my free time I play video games, mostly MMORPG’s (massively multiplayer online role-playing games), as well as take casual 2-hour walks with every intention of looking at the cute dogs that are also on their daily walks. Originally, I am from Latvia, that’s why my name is Toms and not Tom. We have a habit of putting an s at the end of all the male names, so if you ever wondered what your Latvian name is, just put an s at the end of your name and that would be it!

How does your typical day look like?

After I wake up, I make a coffee for myself, have yogurt and an apple for breakfast while watching some videos on YouTube and most importantly - contemplating, should I go to the office or work from home? This is how my morning looks 99% of the time, I’m not even kidding, lately I have been calling it my “morning ritual” and if my day doesn’t start exactly like this, it is very likely I won’t be having a good day.

Afterwards I start my working day, which usually consists of creating content for social media, optimizing our website and adding new content to it, as well as brainstorming new ideas for future marketing initiatives, and much more. I don’t think I can list them all, because none of my working days look the same and the variety of tasks always keeps it fresh and exciting. Once I’m done with my working day, I usually go for a walk, play some video games, watch some new and exciting TV shows, and once in a full moon go to the gym, maybe.

Which Processand values are most important to you and why?

Employee empowerment

The hierarchy at Processand is flat, so everyone has a voice. It does not matter if it is your first month, or you have been here for years, your voice will always be heard and you can know for certain that you will be treated with respect. A high degree of personal responsibility is allowed and even encouraged. What does this entail? Well, to simply put it, you’re a boss of your own work and there won’t be anyone looking over your shoulder.

Flexibility

I can’t stress enough how much the workplace flexibility at Processand contributes to my productivity. Having the opportunity to work nearly whenever and wherever is definitely bringing out my best work. Believe me or not, but I’m not a robot. We all know how sometimes you’re just not feeling productive, and that is okay. You can simply take a step back and come back when productivity is coursing through your body. Time is a social construct anyways, right? Obviously, you can’t just decide not to work an entire day, because you’re not feeling like it, but structuring your working day in a way that fits you best is guaranteed to bring out your best work.

What is the most exciting part of your job?

Most definitely the creative freedom. You would think B2B marketing would be boring. I can assure you; it is not! Thinking of new initiatives on how to raise brand awareness and executing them is always exciting. If you look back 20 years, marketing was done entirely differently back then. It might be true that the essence of it remains the same, but the ways of doing it are completely different nowadays. Following different trends, exploring millions of approaches, and possibly even setting new trends – that’s what it is all about! Creating something new and seeing how it evolves over time *chefs kiss*

How have your hobbies helped you at work?

Playing high action co-op video games have helped me develop a lot of skills, such as communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and most importantly - patience. When you need to cooperate with 20 other people in a virtual environment, where even the slightest mistake would result in a failure for the entire group, you really learn to communicate effectively. Same goes for critical thinking, almost nothing ever goes entirely according to plan, so often a lot you need to make good split-second decisions. The difference between a video game and your workplace is that if you make a bad decision in your workplace, it could potentially cost a lot of money and reputation. What’s the worst that could happen in a video game? Nothing too much, really, so it’s definitely an incredible training ground for your critical thinking skills. I’m certain that patience is self-explanatory, haha.

Describe your team at Processand with a Movie quote.

“Everything is awesome, everything is cool when you’re part of a team” /Lego Movie

What was your dream job when you were a kid?

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a fish farmer. I wanted to have big ponds where I would grow lots of different cool fish and sell them to people who would want those fish in their ponds as well. As a kid I really loved fishing, and I would never take the fish home after I caught it, I would always set them free. That’s why I would not sell them for food purposes, but for like-minded people who would also want cool fish in their ponds. My kid-self would most likely be very disappointed in current me, knowing that I work as a Marketing Manager.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to join Processand?

If you’re not familiar with Process Mining, it would be very advantageous to learn more about it before applying. Good thing there is a podcast which talks all about it – Mining Your Business, a show all about Process Mining, data science, and advanced business analytics! I would specifically recommend episode 50 – What is Process Mining? Vol.2
Maybe you should also have some kicker/table football practice before you come to the office, we play that here a lot!
